Meiguan Ancient Road, 4A Tourist Attraction

 


    Meiguan, called Hengpuguan in ancient times, also known as Qinguan, is located on the Meiling Mountain, 28 kilometers north of Nanxiong County.Meiguan Ancient Road,built during the Qin and Han dynasties, was expanded by Zhang Jiuling, the famous prime minister of Tang dynasty, in AD 716.It is the shortest land transportation route connecting the Yangtze River and the Pearl River to the ancient "Maritime Silk Road".Meiguan is a beautiful place. It has the most well-preserved ancient road in China, the Meiguan Ancient Road, with a total length of 1,000 meters.When winter comes, both sides of the ancient road are filled with white,red and green plum blossoms.Meiguan Ancient Road has hosted countless literati from all ages.
    After the beginning of the Red Army’s long march in 1934, Chen Yi and Xiang Ying, together with other revolutionaries broke out of an encirclement from the Central Soviet Area and came to the Meishan area for three years of arduous guerrilla warfare.General Chen Yi wrote the famous poems "Meiling San Zhang" in this place.
