Overview of Shaoguan


        Shaoguan, called Shaozhou in ancient times, has a urban history of more than 2,100 years. Danxia Mountain is the world geological park and the world natural heritage. Nanhua Temple is home to “Zen Buddhism”, where Master Huineng, the Sixth Patriarch of Zen Buddhism, once created the concept of Sudden Enlightenment. Nanling Mountain is“the most well-preserved oasis on the same latitude of the earth”. Zhuji Lane is the birthplace and ancestral residence of Guangfu people.

        Shaoguan is located in the northern part of Guangdong Province, at the junction of the three provinces of Guangdong, Hunan and Jiangxi. It is the intersection of the Southern Hunan Economic Zone, the Southern Jiangxi Economic Zone and the Pearl River Delta Economic Zone. Shaoguan is known as the North Gate of Guangdong Province and is now served as a critical channel connecting the the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to the hinterland of China.
        Shaoguan has jurisdiction over 3 districts and 7 counties (cities).The total area is 1.84 million square kilometers, ranking second in Guangdong Province, with a registered population of 33.66 million and a forest coverage rate of 73.84%, ranking first in Guangdong Province.
